| Health And Safety
The Health And Safety At Work Act states that employers have a
duty of care with regard to the health and safety of their
employees.
One of the requirements is to risk and ergonomically assess the
workstations of all employees and this includes not only the
practicalities of the height and position of the desk, chair and
computer but also how the employee uses their body within that
workstation to prevent any work related injury.
What we can offer
We are able to provide workstation assessments either
individually or in small groups of up to 10 people, to show them how
to use their body within their workstation so that they can stop
themselves developing an injury.
Our philosophy at the wyndham centre is that of prevention. By
making people aware of the ways in which the muscles and spine are
likely to become asymmetrical leading to muscle imbalance, damage
and pain in the general course of the day at work, we show them how
to keep the body in balance.
When the body is in balance then not only the musculo-skeletal
system, but also the circulatory and lymphatic systems function
efficiently. With fluid movements and muscle efficiency you can
increase your stamina and reduce your tiredness. If the body is not
in its right alignment then the cheating mechanisms set in.
We want to teach people how to replace bad habits with good ones,
to restore natural normal movement that will help keep pain and
stiffness at bay, and prevent further damage.
AIMS
- To look at the patients every day
activities and relate the aches/potential aches to their bad
habits.
- To increase awareness in how the body
is likely to become damaged and cause problems
- To show them how to avoid the bad
habits
- To help prevent work related injuries
- To give them specific exercises to
help control stretch and strengthen the body and release muscle
tension
- To show the optimum height of the desk
and chair in relation to the individual.
We also provide spinal workshops in larger groups that are a more
general look at the spine and posture, and we show how to avoid
developing back and neck ache.
If there are individuals with injuries we are able to provide
first-class physiotherapy services including acupuncture, which are
covered by all health insurance groups. It has been found that the
sooner the injury is treated the less likely the person is to have
time off work. However if they do have to stop or reduce their
hours, with treatment, they will return much sooner to full time
productive work.
Another requirement
Employers also have a duty of care to assess and reduce work
related stress. It accounts for over 13 million days lost in UK
industry a year and cost society as a whole, about £3.7 billion.
Obviously it is not possible to eliminate all stress or pressure
from the workplace but if employers recognise and manage the risks
well there is a happier and more productive workforce.
We are a holistic practice and therefore can provide
complementary treatments many of which can give a significant boost
to a positive staff morale. The therapies include; massage,
reflexology, nutrition, acupuncture, chiropody and podiatry, reiki,
homeopathy, hypnotherapy, counselling, aura and chakra readings and
food allergy testing. These however are not covered by insurance and
so we have set up a club scheme, the wyndham centre club concept,
that we are sure can be a great corporate benefit.
We can be flexible with the therapies to suit the needs of your
staff and company requirements and we provide flexible payment
plans.
For the wellbeing of the workforce we can organise health fairs
that may include a 30-minute talk on a health subject, a question
and answer session and then tasters with our complementary
practitioners.
